Types of Acne

Although it is uncommon for acne vulgaris to become severe in some cases it does, and the symptoms are slightly different. You may experience nodules and cysts instead of the common smaller spots, and they will be uncomfortable.  Nodules are larger harder bumps that may last for several months, and scarring is very common with them.  Nodules that have not completely cleared up will cause problems time and time again. You must never attempt to squeeze them, and in fact you should avoid touching them at all.  The cysts that you may experience will also be painful, and you should not attempt to burst them.

Acne rosacea is very similar to the vulgaris type; however, this type of acne will also spread around the neck area. You will have a red rash that can appear on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Your blood vessels will also be far more visible, and if left untreated can become very severe. With this type of acne there will very rarely be any blackheads. Acne rosacea is commonly found on middle aged woman.  Although when men do suffer from this form of acne it will be very severe, and need specialist treatment. This type of acne affects millions of people, and it usually can only be treated through a doctor.

There are very severe forms of acne that can affect you, and these are known as acne conglobata. This type of acne is most commonly found in males. It will be very widespread, and the blackheads will cause large lesions across the area. This form of acne will unfortunately cause scarring and extreme discomfort for the sufferers.  Not only will this type of acne be on your face and neck, but can also be on your back, arms, and buttocks.  Although this type of acne usually appears at around the age of 18 it can last for several years. It can have lasting emotional and physical symptoms for many years even after it has cleared up.

Many Different Types of Acne

A well as acne conglobata you may suffer from acne fulimans, which is the abrupt outbreak of acne connected to your original symptoms.  However, you may also experience other symptoms including aching joints, and a fever. This form of acne is very severe and emotionally distressing for the period that it is at its worst. Unfortunately this type of acne cannot be easily treated, and can cause you to become withdrawn, and very self conscious.  As well as these common types of acne there are some very rare forms that affect a small minority of people.

Often the rare types of acne will be due to the side effects of long term treatment of acne vulgaris.  Once diagnosed due to the type of symptoms suffering a treatment will be able to be prescribed. Although there are several different types of acne doctors do have several different treatments that are affective. Unfortunately acne does take its toll on the people who suffer from it, and for some people it takes a long time for the sufferer to fully recover. Acne does affect millions of people, however, it is still a huge problem, and doctors are always trying to find better treatments, and hopefully a cure one day.  Once you diagnose the type of acne that you suffer from the treatments to suit it can be prescribed. Although this treatment may not be a cure for all types of acne, it can help you to deal with your acne in the best possible way.
