Nodular Acne Treatment

Do you have unsightly acne that seems to be resistant to any effort to get rid of it?

Are you noticing that your face has unsightly lumps and swellings that are much larger than the normal blemishes?

Are there firm, pus filled bumps on your face that are large and very painful to the touch?

Then you might need specialized nodular acne treatment instead of that over the counter face wash you have been told to use.

All acne is not the same and some forms are far more troublesome than others.

Nodular acne treatments are required for people who have a very severe type of acne that creates cysts and nodular areas deep within the skin.

Nodular Acne and its Treatment

While most people think of zits and pimples when the word “acne” is mentioned there are actually several different types of blemishes and skin problems that can result from an acne outbreak. Mild to moderate forms of acne can often be successfully treated with topical applications of creams, and antibiotics. Nodular acne treatment requires a great deal more time and work to address the condition properly.

If you have a fairly mild form of acne then you might consider yourself a fortunate individual. Those who have to deal with nodular acne have a difficult battle and this type of skin condition can be traumatizing because of the severe effect on a person’s appearance, self confidence and mental attitude.

Nodular acne is not limited to your face. It can appear on the neck, butt, legs, shoulders and arms. No matter what part of the body is affected the battle with nodular acne is bound to be difficult, even under the best of circumstances.

In the past nodular acne treatment was impossible to find. There were always many different products being marketed that claimed to help clear this skin problem up and restore smooth skin but they were simply exaggerated promises and the products proved to be ineffective. Today dermatologists can offer acne treatments that can target and alleviate even the most resistant types of acne skin problems.

More men than women seem to be affected by nodular acne problems. This inflammatory skin condition is thought to be partially due to androgen production which is a male hormone. Since the androgen may be responsible for the over production of oil in the skin it is necessary to find a way to keep the oil, or sebum, under control while also dealing with the inflammation and removing old skin cells, and treating the resultant infections.

Types of Nodular Acne Treatment

Nodular acne treatment is very important because these nodules and cysts are formed when the oil glands become enlarged and burst. This releases toxins and pus into the tissue that surrounds the ruptured oil gland. Since the wastes are trapped in the skin layers it is hard to heal this type of acne condition.

With the right type of nodular acne treatment even cystic or severe nodular acne can be successfully controlled. You should seek the help of a reputable dermatologist because the treatment regimen will be tedious and complex if you want to really minimize the duration of this acne problem and prevent permanent scars on your face and body.

Accutane is one of the drugs that some dermatologists may prescribe to help deal with nodular acne. Individuals take one of these pills 1-2 times a day over the course of several months. The medication will reduce the size of the oil glands so that less oil is produced and the likelihood of the glands rupturing is greatly reduced. This drug does have some side effects which may be severe. Some users have found that they become depressed or suffer from suicidal thoughts so it is best that you discuss this option thoroughly with your doctor before agreeing to this treatment option.

Another option that is used to treat nodular acne is the injection of corticosteroids into the area where the nodules and cysts are located. This anti-inflammatory drug provides relief of the pain and reduces the swelling and inflammation which helps speed the healing process. There are no simple home remidies for nodular acne.

Dermatologists can also use acne surgery when an effective nodular acne treatment method is required. They will use sterilized instruments to open the lesions and remove the trapped contents. You should not try this nodular acne treatment at home because incorrect methods and lack of sterile instruments can easily cause a major infection in your skin or bloodstream.
