Popping Pimples

Now that you are set for graduation ball over the weekend, everything is falling into place and you give yourself a pat on the back.

But as you stare at your reflection on the mirror and you see your pimples staring back at you, you begin to have second thoughts.

The next thing you know, you are looking for anything you can use to rid yourself of those pimples.

In short, you have decided to take the most dangerous short cut of all: popping pimples.

When it comes to popping pimples, people are divided. Some vehemently claim that bursting them is a no-no but on the other hand, others dismiss it as simply an inevitable part of growing up.

Is Popping Pimples Bad?

Popping pimples is dangerous because once you break the skin, it is vulnerable to infection or scarring.  However, if you are too impatient to wait around for them to erupt on their own, there is a safe and sanitary way to pop them.

First things first. Wash your hands well, scrubbing thoroughly, including beneath the nails. Next, using a mild antibacterial cleanser, cleanse the skin around the pimple.

Next, we move on to the sensitive part. Wear sterile disposable gloves so that your fingers are not in direct contact with the pimple. Aside from preventing bacterial infection, the gloves will also hinder the sharp points of your finger nails from pressing on your pimple. Using a loop-headed whitehead remover, gently press against the whitehead or pimple but make sure to go easy, as the loop itself will do its job by exerting even pressure around the pimple.

Gently massage the skin surrounding the pimple to press out the remaining pus, but do not touch the pimple itself. Stop immediately if any bleeding occurs.

Finish the procedure by wiping the area around the pimple with an antiseptic solution. Apply benzoyl peroxide to kill any bacteria remaining in the pimple.

What’s The Verdict On Popping Pimples?

Generally speaking, popping pimples is unhealthy for the skin because doing so heightens your chances of inflammation. If this happens, you could end up with a scar for life. Actually, it’s not only the risk of scarring your face when you pop pimples but also the possibility of exacerbating the blemish.

Popping pimples can also result to a nodule, an inflamed and painful pimple which goes deep into the skin. Worse than that is the formation of a cyst, a form of lesion made worse by bacterial infection. Cysts develop once a crust develops around the infection in the dermis, appearing like a soft, liquid-filled mass. When this happens, medical intervention is usually necessary to remove it.

The procedure listed here may seem simple, yet one false move and the results could be very unpleasant indeed. Strive to adopt a hands-off policy whenever pimples surface. They’ll go away with proper care and a little time, especially if you leave them be – don’t go popping pimples.
